Description: Julia Bonetto is an argentine scriptwriter, film director and university professor.
After receiving her BA in Sociology from the University of Buenos Aires, she completed her MA in Documentary Film at the Universidad del Cine (FUC) with a thesis dedicated to feminist film theory and documentaries made by women.
She has trained in screenwriting and literary writing with Jorge La Ferla, Lionel D’Agostino, Irene Ickowicz, Fremdina Bianco and Manuel Álvarez. She also explored with found footage in three feature-length documentaries: Los dos padres, La estrella roja and Los campos sembrados brillan cuando está nublado; the latter became her first novel published in 2019 under the Argentine publishing house Metrópolis. She also has been a jury member for several film and video competitions at Fondo Nacional de las Artes
In 2021, as an offshoot of her master’s thesis, she receives support from the Institute of Research and Postgraduate Studies of the Universidad del Cine to continue exploring documentary narratives made by women by leading a research team made up of women filmmakers and academics. She also co-founded drift, a literary agency based in Buenos Aires and Johannesburg that represents African authors in Latin America and Spain.
