Based in Toronto, Joan Barr has had a career as a teacher and a medical practitioner. Initially trained as a School Teacher, Joan Barr taught school in the Toronto area for 3 years, in both a traditional high school setting and as well, in an “Open Plan” school where she taught in an experiential learning environment, and provided creative Outdoor Educational experiences for her students. As a Medical Practitioner for 38 years, she initially practiced Comprehensive Medicine, and for the subsequent 19 years
