2021 marks the 200th anniversary of Jewish community life in the city of Cincinnati, which formally began with the founding of Chestnut Street Cemetery. The Jewish community and the City of Cincinnati will commemorate this significant milestone through community celebrations, multi-generational programs, and interactive experiences.
The establishment of the first Jewish cemetery west of the Allegheny Mountains in 1821 in Cincinnati paved the way for 200 years of culture, contributions and achievements that continue today. Following a lengthy, careful restoration effort, the Chestnut Street Cemetery in the West End was formally rededicated on September 26, 2021 signaling the beginning of the Jewish Cincinnati Bicentennial.
