I am a Distinguished Professor in the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Pittsburgh and former president of the Philosophy of Science Association (2010–12). Much of my research concerns causation and scientific explanation. In addition I have worked on philosophical issues in psychology, neuroscience, and the social sciences.
