Formerly the residence for the Archdeacon of Suffolk, Archdeacon's House was built on the site of the original Archdeacon's Palace and is steeped in history. The building today is mainly 18th/19th Century but does retain some of the 16th/17th Century structure. The 15th Century gatehouse fronting Northgate Street was originally commissioned by William Pykenham in 1471 and is the oldest remaining evidence of the original building.
