Marc Maron’s excellent career spanning interview with director Todd Haynes had me revisiting Haynes’ once highly bootlegged film Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story. The 1987 short focuses on Carpenter’s struggles with anorexia, and was made almost entirely with Barbie dolls.
With the title track stuck in my head for days, I dug up my favorite cover of the Delaney & Bonnie track, by Gayle McCormick .
McCormick brings the heat, and the backing band brings some pretty serious lounge-funk.
