Economists have suggested, that market prizes regulate everything and growth is a core value itself. Today we clearly know that this assumption was a mistake. Market decisions have external effects, which are not included in market prices, such as bonded labour, destruction of the environment or the killing of animals. On a more global perspective, this led to our current way of life, where we only have one earth to live on - but behave as if we had several others in our pockets.
In order to solve this issue, the United Nations have agreed on 17 “Sustainable Development Goals” (SDGs), that should guide our decisions in order to preserve our life on this planet. Those goals are interdependent and can only be achieved by re-thinking business and systems towards a circular economy. In order to do that, we need to finance innovation and empower changemakers to think and act outside the box.
