When the original Inn was built in 1804, it was the epitome of a roadside establishment, with horse-drawn traffic trundling along about six feet from the front door. You can still experience some of what that road felt like by continuing on the A82 between Tarbet and Ardlui, where it still follows the size and course of the original road.

Now, over 200 years later, countless visitors from far and wide have come and gone and little has stayed the same. The original building remains but with two substantial additions testifying to its growing popularity; the old road is now the hotel’s terrace and a cul de sac ; its successor, the A82, has retreated down the hill towards the shore of Loch Lomond, and in January this year, our family, Andrew, Rosaline, Janice and Ray, became owners of our third successive Scottish hotel.

Nobody really owns a hotel, it sort of owns you for as long as you are privileged to steer its course. However long our stewardship is destined to last, we are very conscious of the history and importance of The Inn to the thousands of people who have rested their heads, eaten their fill and slaked their thirst here, and we intend to do everything in our power to make a stay at The Inn as happy, comfortable and memorable as we possibly can.
