Marijuana is legalized in the State of Illinois, both for medical and recreational uses. The Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act of Illinois passed by the State's legislature in 2019 made Illinois the first state in the U.S. to legalize the use of marijuana by an act of the legislature. The law was passed on May 31, 2019, but took effect on January 1, 2020. Non-residents in the State of Illinois are only allowed to have up to 15 grams of marijuana flower, or 2.5 grams of marijuana concentrate in their possession. They are not allowed to be in possession of any quantity of THC beyond 250 milligrams in a marijuana-infused product.
