The United Nations World FOOD Programee (WFP) warns that the COVID-19 pandemic will see more than a quarter of a billion people suffering acute hunger and related illnesses by the end of 2020. While some US cities struggle with rising virus cases, we have made a promise to our partners in Huaycán, Peru and Honduras to provide funds for much needed healthcare services, food programs and education support to the local children and their families. The constant refrain we hear is: “ We may not die of the Corona Virus but we may die of hunger.” For poor communities social distancing and lockdown is not possible, living as they do in small quarters and shacks in deprived areas where water is also in short supply.
