Some families have been blessed to be fluent in more than one language and are able to pass that along to their children. For us, it is hardly more than a far fetched dream to be able to give our kids the ability to tap into their natural language learning abilities while they are still young. Both Handsome and I only dabbled in a foreign language during our high school years. Having a one-year subscription to Excelerate SPANISH Streaming by Excelerate SPANISH has proven to fill that void in our home.
We made a decision with Bookworm Beauty to place her into a language immersion program in second and third grades. She was immersed in Spanish and was learning quite a bit before we made the decision to begin homeschooling and moved out to the prairie. Her progress seemed to quickly diminish, but like riding a bike, she seems to periodically get into a Spanish mode and surprise us with how much she still knows.
Over the last few years, she has played around with a few other Spanish programs that seemed to reinforce the foundational basics that she already knew but were not challenging her to excel and move forward. We tried to find other people that were fluent in Spanish to converse with her, with limited success. In the end, it is one of the regrets that I have had with our homeschooling.
