Description: Hannah Read is a Scottish born, New York based singer songwriter and fiddler.
Hannah Read ’s music straddles both sides of the Atlantic. She is a versatile collaborator and forges her own singular musical landscape that draws from American and Scottish folk traditions as well as from contemporary indie-pop and rock. Originally from Edinburgh, Scotland and now based in California, Hannah is an award-winning fiddler, guitarist, singer and composer. She leads her own band and is an in-demand musician on both sides of the Atlantic.
Hannah’s new album The Fungi Sessions Vol. 1 (released October 2023) is a concept album of fungi inspired instrumental compositions. This follows her critically acclaimed solo album, Way Out I'll Wander , Appalachian old-time duo album with Michael Starkey, Cross The Rolling Water (both released on Hudson Records), and the BBC Folk Award winning album Songs of Separation .
Equally at home improvising on fiddle, playing Appalachian old-time music or delivering finely wrought original songs, she is an artist who can’t be pinned down to one continent, one city, one project, one mode of expression.
