It must have been around 1997 when i inserted a Linux floppy disk into a computer for the first time. A lot has changed in those 20 years since then, but my love for Linux, and enthusiasm while working with it, has not.
I took on my first paid job as a System Administrator about 2 years later - without really knowing what i was doing, but still managing to set up a web and mail hosting server for external customers at a local IT company - i knew that this was the career i wanted to pursue.
After finishing school and military duty, i applied for an apprenticeship in the IT deparment at a television station in Cologne, then moved with them to Berlin after they were bought by an international corporation, and continued working for them for over 10 years - of which 2 years were partially spent in their offices in Amsterdam - rising from the initial position as a Desktop Support Engineer back to System Administrator, and finally to Senior System Administrator.
