The term "Greater New York” appeared in late nineteenth-century debates over the expansion of New York City into today’s five-borough metropolis. A New York Times editorial of 1891, "Greater New-York," endorsed the enlargement and affirmed that "it is an abhorrent hypothesis that New-York should stop growing."
The same is true for dialogue about the city, the state, and the myriad issues that swirl around both.
