This journey in the earth was never meant to be spent gathering things but it was meant for rulership, dominion and authority. When sin entered the picture, we lost our inner life and as God puts it, we died.
Yes, we are indeed dead and impotent without the Holy Spirit abroad. Man cannot properly rule when his soul is under satanic control. Jesus died to ensure that you become the ruler of your soul again.
