The Golden Pride Childrens Choir is a group of 42 children from a remote village in Tanzania, East Africa. Their voices have taken them from their village to international acclaim at major music festivals. In 2003 the choir produced their first CD, Mapambano . Their first international performace was at the 2004 WOMAD Festival of World Music in the UK. The trip was funded solely on donations and was the subject of a documentary From Rags To Rhapsody .
In March 2006, the choir travelled to Australia and performed at several venues in Perth, at WOMADelaide in Adelaide, the Commonwealth Games Cultural Festival in Melbourne and recorded their second CD ' Live With Pride ', released in June 2006. A meeting with reggae legend Jimmy Cliff resulted in invitations to perform at the Blue Balls Festival in Switzerland and the Stimmen Festival in Germany in July 2006 alongside names such as, Angelique Kidjo, Tracey Chapman and James Blunt to name just a few.
Funds raised on their tours went towards building a much needed secondary school in their village. Construction started in April 2006 and was completed the same year. There are now over 300 students who otherwise would not have received an education attending the school.
