Situated in the stunning, rural Outer Hebrides, Glaic Cottage is a beautiful, traditional thatched blackhouse that has been fully refurbished, and is the perfect getaway to escape and relax. With a cosy open plan living/dining/kitchen area, a double bedroom and a shower room, it is very well-equipped and comfortable.
It was built around 1850. Originally an estate worker’s home, it became a holiday cottage in the 1980s. When we purchased it in March 2019, it required some TLC, and major damp treatment. It is a category B listed building and is thatched with local marram grass. The outbuilding is a cleit, traditionally used for drying and storing fish and meat. The name Glaic means “glade”.
