The Blue Card was inspired by the United States' Green Card and making reference to the European flag which is blue with twelve golden stars. The Blue Card is an approved EU-wide work permit allowing highly-skilled non-EU citizens to work and live in specified European Union Countries.
EU Blue Card is a European version of United States' Green Card. EU Blue Card holder non-EU citizens have same socio-economic rights with a EU Citizen and they have a path towards permanent residence in Europe. EU Blue Card system is not a point-based program. If a non-EU citizen has enough education level or professional experience in his/her job, he/she is eligible to have an EU Blue Card.
