At Ortum we have been breeding for a well muscled, easy lambing and easy care terminal sire for over 35 years. We have been Signet recorded by Eblex for over 30 years and area past members of the Sire Reference Group and Premier Suffolk Breeders from 1994 until their demise. The Flock The Ortum flock was formed from a nucleus of 10 animals bought at the dispersal of the well known Langton flock in 1978.
Through only careful purchasing of a small number of females and selective purchasing of rams with good conformation and performance figures in the early years we built the flock to approximately 200 females. However, due to reorganisation, the flock was reduced to 75 ewes. With the scaling down and the selection for figures and conformation the results were that we had the top flock in 2007 with 33 ram lambs in the top 1% (102 lambs in total) of the recorded rams of the year.
We select long bodied and deep muscled rams with good performance figures, using semen out of the top one percent of the recorded rams.
