The Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) was an organization created by the Union Veterans of the Civil War. The G.A.R. existed from 1866 to 1956. During the 90-years of its existence, over 10,000 G.A.R. Veterans Posts were formed. Within Michigan, 463 Posts were formed. Michigan's G.A.R. Michigan's G.A.R. Memorial Hall and Museum is open the first and second Wednesdays of each month, patriotic holidays, city-wide festivals and most importantly, by appointment (all you need to do is to call us and we will arrange to have the museum opened up for you). Admission is free, but donations are always appreciated!
