On August 15th, Supt. Dr. Michelle Reid announced in an email to parents that FCPS would not adhere to the new Transgender Model Policies adopted by the Virginia Board of Education and announced by Governor Glenn Youngkin on July 18th. According to Reid's statement, after a legal review, FCPS determined "current Fairfax County Public School (FCPS) policies are consistent with federal and state anti-discrimination laws as required by the new model policies."
In open defiance of the policy, FCPS transgender students will continue to be addressed by their chosen names and pronouns; continue to be provided with access to facilities, activities and/or trips consistent with their gender identity; and continue to have their privacy respected regarding their status, legal name, or sex assigned at birth.
