Ancient cultures have always been interconnected with the earth and as such have had a deeper understanding of the complex living system that we are a part of. Microorganisms such as anaerobic bacteria and mould provides the living link in the chain of life. In the natural world waste is not tolerated and so when one lifeform dies another moves in to recycle the carbon atoms. So life and the cycle continues.
