On June 17, 2004, my Grandfather, Carlos Owen , along with Harley Chisholm , and Robert Bennett were killed in the line of duty. These men along with many others, did everything they could to protect our communities, and for that I am incredibly thankful. That day changed our lives forever. My entire family and I think about Pop everyday and we enjoy sharing memories about him that are truly special to us so we can keep his memory living on.
One of my favorite stories about Pop was my parents telling me about how he used to keep treats in his patrol car to give to children who are seeking comfort in a time of need. Hearing this story inspired me to start my organization, Siren Snuggles By Emma Owen.
With my 501(c)(3) organization, I receive donations of stuffed animals, toys, and nonperishable snacks that I put into Siren Snuggles bags. After bagging up these items, I deliver Siren Snuggles bags to police officers and fire fighters so they can give these items to children they come across who find themselves in bad situations through no fault of their own. I hope my organization will allow current and future police officers to be able to touch as many lives as my Pop did.
