Minnesota State Fair annual favorites and traditions include the 4-H animal judging, the oversized draft horses, the fevered sales pitch for the cyclone stool (it collapses into itself), the overpriced merch and the free loot, and the portraits at the Alphabet Forest (a small cabin surrounded by activities to promote reading).
The crop art in the “Ag-Hort” (agriculture and horticulture) Building is a perennial favorite. If the general political climate is unsettled, the entries can get pretty snarky. My past favorite was the portrait of former US Representative Michele Bachmann as the “patron saint of wingnuts.”
This year the Democratic majority passed a bevy of progressive legislation, so our State Auditor, a crop artist in her spare time, commemorated their accomplishments with a positive if somewhat bland design.
