I love when it’s at the midpoint of the year and you can look at your stats and goals and see where things stand. I do it for books, and I do it for films (when I remember). I thought that as so far in 2023 I’ve (re)watched a number of film franchises, it’d be interesting to see things like my most watched actors and directors now and see if there’s any changes by the end of the year.
My only film-related goal for 2023 was to watch at least 52 films directed and written by women and I am making good progress with that. I have watched 22 different films directed by women and 23 different films written by women which is nearly half of 52 on both counts. I’ve already got some cinema vists planned in July that will bring those numbers up and there’s plenty of films on the watchlists of the various streaming services I have that are directed and/or written by women. Some of more of my favourite films of 2023 so far are Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse , Puss in Boots: The Last Wish , Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves , John Wick: Chapter 4 and Air . I’ve watched 93 different films and I’ve been to the cinema 32 times which is more than I thought I had to be honest. I’ve been reading books and watching various TV shows more than watching films this year – or at least it felt like I had. Maybe I am finding a balance between those three things without realising
