Egg donation is suggested to patients who are candidates for in vitro fertilization and who do not succeed in producing eggs independently or when there is a defect in their eggs that prevents their fertilization. In such cases, the eggs of a donor woman can be used. Donor eggs are used only after the explicit recommendation of the treating obstetrician-gynecologist following the conduction of the necessary examination, diagnostic tests and consultation.
The eggs that are aspirated from the donor are fertilized by the father’s /or donor's sperm using laboratory means, and the developing embryos are transferred to the patient’s uterine cavity. The patient receives appropriate hormonal treatment in order to prepare the endometrium for successful reception of the embryos. This hormonal treatment will continue after the eggs are transferred to the patient's uterus and during the pregnancy according to the treating physician’s instructions.
