As engineers, we were previously required to meet project commitments during detailed design. However, these had not always been adequately considered at the pre-planning stage, where detailed modelling was not required. This can lead to unforeseen consequences when design development follows planning approval.
The introduction of Energy Strategy and Energy Assessment reports, along with Sustainability Statements has crystallised the need for practical design experience to be employed at the pre planning stage.
