My name is Emily Chen and I am currently a Computer Science Ph.D. candidate at the University of Southern California (USC) , and my research interests lie in machine learning, computational social sciences and human behavior analysis. I currently work under the supervision of Professor Emilio Ferrara , and our lab is a part of the Machine Intelligence and Data Science (MINDS) group at USC's Information Sciences Institute .

Prior to pursing my Ph.D at USC, I completed my bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2017, where I conducted research through the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) Students Pushing Innovation program under Professor André Schleife for a few years. I then went on to work at Cisco Systems as a software engineer.

In my spare time, I volunteer as a Sophomore Math instructor at Minds Matter Los Angeles (which is where you can find me every Saturday morning during the academic school year). I also enjoy playing a number of video games with my friends, and am a casual photographer (with a preference for portrait photography).
