Cospatric, Earl of Dunbar , great grandson to Cospatric, the Earl of Northumbria , had 3 sons, Waldeve, Patrick and Huchtred of Dunbar . Waldeve granted the lands of Dundas to his nephew Helias who was the son of Huchtred. Helias assumed the "Lion of Dunbar" as his Arms, with the transmutation of tinctures only, namely, Argent, a lion rampant gules (a red lion on a silver or white field).
