Dr Sampie Smith grew up in Klerksdorp in the North West province, where he currently runs his private practice. He completed his undergraduate studies in 2003 at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein.
He then completed his internship at King Edward VIII in Durban and his community service at Tshepong Hospital in Klerksdorp. In 2006 he started his surgical training at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein and qualified in 2011.
