Psychiatry today is a balancing act between the physical and the emotional, the somatic and the psychological, the scientific and the spiritual. As a practitioner since 2003, I have found that things go best when I approach each treatment encounter as an opportunity to get to know a person holistically and as a unique individual, be it in a one-time consultation or in long-term, ongoing treatment.
My specialties are psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, reproductive psychiatry (women's mental health), and borderline personality disorder. I am TFP (transference-focused psychotherapy) trained and hold a certificate in clinical research from Weill Cornell graduate college of the arts and sciences. I am a graduate of the Weill Cornell Payne Whitney residency program and was for seven years an attending psychiatrist at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell Medical Center.
I am a strong believer in talk therapy, but I am also respectful of the fact that it is not right for everyone. I also am a strong believer in using the right medication at the right time, although I have found that not every treatment necessarily needs to (or should) involve medication. Exercise, meditation, acupuncture and other enhancements to wellness may also be explored together as part of the treatment plan if they are right for you.
