The Detroit Research Institute is an educational and training organization for serving the continuing development needs of industrial and business personnel. The Institute was organized in 1958 by Dr. Arvid W. Jacobson, Chairman of the Math Dept. and Director of first Computing Laboratory at the WSU.
The Institute in the past has offered short courses and seminars in various disciplines such as system engineering, mathematical models in biomedical field, computers, management, banking automation, reliability statistics, and as well as other activities calculated to promote industrial progress. These seminars have been offered with consistent success during the last 40 years, especially the Product Reliability Courses, participants have come from major industries across the country and abroad.
