As I see it, therapy is a relationship: a temporary one that you can use to improve the more permanent ones at the center of your life.
The most basic principle in my practice is that people are always trying to overcome the psychological obstacles that interfere with their happiness. My job as a therapist is to help identify those obstacles and suggest better ways to cope with them.
While I incorporate techniques and interventions from a number of other sources, my primary approach to psychotherapy is based on the work of the San Francisco Psychotherapy Research Group (SFPRG), which has developed a fundamentally patient friendly and patient centered model of therapy.
