This website provides transcriptions of letters written to Henry James . These letters, from the Houghton Library at Harvard , have never been published before and will probably never be available in book form.
This is not a commercial site. Its primary purpose is to provide graduate students and scholars of American and English literature from around the world with a reliable and convenient alternative to using the original manuscripts. All letters have been carefully transcribed according to theories of scholarly editing.
This site serves as a complement to the forthcoming and in-progress publication of The Complete Letters of Henry James, 1855-1872 , edited by Pierre A. Walker and Greg W. Zacharias.
