Energy Storage For a long time, the potential of zinc–cerium flow battery has been restricted due to unacceptable charge loss and unstable cycling performance, which stem from the incompatibility of the Ce and Zn electrolytes. In this work, a dual-membrane cell configuration with an ion transpiration hub is designed to enable the use of custom-assigned charge carriers.
This cell demonstrates a stable and reproducible cycling performance, and the hypothesis of aiding the local electric field by a conductive material to minimize cell polarization can be extended to other systems that involve multiple membranes or ionic conductors.
