Hi, my name is Mark Dang-Anh. I am a linguist with a background in media linguistics and discourse analysis. I work as a postdoctoral researcher at the Department for Lexical Studies at the Leibniz Institute for the German Language ( IDS ) where I head the research unit Words, Media, and Society . I am also PI of the project Basic Socio-Political Concepts with Large Scope and Duration , which is part of the collaborative research project The 20th Century in Basic Concepts .

I study how culture and society are constituted, continually renegotiated, and transformed through discursive and media practices. I conduct my research primarily from a semiopraxeological, media linguistic perspective investigating the relationship between signs, practices, and media. Methodologically, I am interested in the integration of semiotic, mediality-oriented, and pragmatic analyses of (political) discourse, both corpus-based and hermeneutic.

The focus of my current research is on linguistic approaches to positioning theory and conceptual history. My doctoral thesis is about street protest communication in digital media . Among other things, I have worked on projects on the use of language in National Socialism and on Twitter discourse in election campaigns .
