Townsville is located on a coastal floodplain and ringed by mountains, with the Great Barrier Reef lying just offshore. The coastline features beaches, mangroves, saltpans and wetlands, as well as much-loved community assets such as The Strand and the Jezzine Barracks precinct. Maintaining clean waterways and managing run off is vital to the health of the Reef, the community and the unique dry tropics environment.
