This month marks the TEN YEAR anniversary of my first solo travel. I can’t believe it! Ten years seems so long, yet everything that has happened in that time frame has gone by in a blink of an eye. It’s truly incredible how good life has been to me this past decade and honestly, it all started with my first solo travel to Peru in 2008.
I remember feeling nervous and scared about traveling on my own, especially to a place I had never been to before, didn’t know anyone, and didn’t speak the language. For the life of me, I can’t recall what prompted me to do it in the first place. The idea of taking a solo trip to Peru wasn’t my original plan, but I had found a cheap last-minute flight to Lima and even though none of my friends could take time off on such short notice, I thought, “What the hell? It’s too good to pass up!” Next thing I knew,
I know that many considering solo travel hesitate for fear of feeling lonely or having to do things by themselves, and certainly I had my own fears about that as well, but my greatest takeaway from that first trip was that I never once felt lonely during my time in Peru. I instantly met fellow travelers and continued to make new friends and travel companions throughout my time there. I also discovered that I loved having the option to do things on my own.
