Christine is a member of the Association of Writers and Writing Programs, Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, Association of Black Women Historians, and the Association for the Study of African American Life and History. She also serves as an Ambassador for Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.
From early reader chapter books for children to historical fiction and practical how-to guides for adults, Christine’s literature focuses on centering African diasporic experiences — past, present, and future. This includes teaching the history of the transatlantic slave trade and its lasting implications on race relations in America through her literary fiction debut, The Truth About Awiti , and encouraging sustainable living practices through her most recent offering, The Afrominimalist’s Guide to Living
Although Christine’s only daughter is now in college, she continues to draw on their adventures together as inspiration for her children’s literature. Up next? Frankie & Friends , a charming new chapter-book featuring a precious young girl who emulates her journalist mama by reporting on household news with the help of her sister and an unlikely news crew.
