The authors combine extracts of national sources with excerpts from the European level and put them in context adding explanatory and comparative notes. The aim is to enable students across Europe and beyond to discuss the same leading cases and materials.

In 2016 friends and family established the Walter van Gerven Institute in memory of the founding father and general editor of the Ius Commune Casebook series.
