In October of 1949, realizing the historical significance of the Carson mansion to Eureka and Humboldt County, local businessmen J.H. Crothers and Carl Gustafson secured the option to purchase the Carson property from its owners. In an effort to preserve the mansion, they envisioned the creation of a menâs club modeled after the long established Humboldt Club of which William Carson was a founding member. The purchase of the Carson mansion was formally completed in May, 1950, and the Ingomar Club was born
