The Carlsbad Community Gardens Collaborative (CCGC) began in hopes of creating a network of community gardens throughout our town. Led by an all-volunteer board, CCGC dedicates its efforts to support our existing gardens, advocate for new gardens and educate gardeners and would-be gardeners of all ages.
For years, the Harold E. Smerdu Community Garden was one-of-a-kind with a long waiting list. When the CCGC began as a grassroots effort in 2010, our immediate goal was more gardens.
Our continued advocacy led to Calavera Schoolhouse Community Garden in 2014 and Pine Avenue Community Garden in 2018. A fourth garden near Stagecoach Park is in the works for 2023 as we manage a waiting list of over 400 Carlsbad residents.
