Description: Candi CdeBaca is running for re-election in District 9 for Denver City Council.
Prior to taking office, I had over ten years’ experience developing, analyzing, evaluating and advocating for policy and working as a social worker with community. I founded and co-founded several critical D9-serving organizations, including: Project VOYCE, GES Coalition, Tierra Colectiva Community Land Trust, Ditch the Ditch, and the East Denver Food Sovereignty Initiative (EDFSI).
As a member of Council, I successfully led the charge to force the city of Denver to divest from halfway houses run by private prison companies. I co-sponsored the Eviction Defense Right to Counsel ordinance, as well as the charter change to require Council approval of certain mayoral appointments. Most recently, I co-sponsored ordinances to strengthen worker protections against wage theft, to decriminalize jaywalking, and to protect and modernize zoning around mobile home parks.
All of my policy proposals and legislation were crafted in collaboration with community, through over a dozen stakeholder advisory groups I’ve convened with constituents since 2019. Together, we can meaningfully address the challenges we face across District 9. I have proven in my first term that I will always put the voices of the people first. I am running to continue bringing the people’s voice to the dais.
