Callan Institute as part of Saint John of God Community Services clg., promotes positive practices for individuals with intellectual disability and behavioural support needs (using the Multi-Element Model of Positive Behaviour Support) and relationships and sexuality education and support, as part of RUA..
Multi-Element Behaviour Support(MEBS) is an approach that acknowledges the idea that a behavioural support need is a language used by people who have no other way to relay their message. The behaviour becomes unnecessary when the behaviour finds a voice.
R UA (Raising Understanding and Awareness) within Callan Institute, as part of Saint John of God Community Services, Clg., provides a model of support that focuses on identity, friendship, relationships and sexuality in the lives of children and adults with intellectual disability. RUA uses a bio-psycho-social understanding of sexuality and a Human Rights Based Approach in practice. RUA's Nine Guiding Principles AWARENESS include the PLISSIT and High 5 Alive Models as part of a person centred approach.
