Certified luthier Robert Brooks builds and repairs guitars, often from the ground up! He loves the fact that he can restore an old guitar to sound even better than it was when it was brand new! And he’s been satisfying customers in the Hawk Point, Troy and Greater St. Louis, MO area with his skills since 2016. In fact, he is known in these parts as “The Guitar Doctor!”
It all started when Brooks asked for an acoustic guitar for Christmas in 2011, while he was off work due to a knee injury. When Brooks’ wife took him to a local music store to pick out a guitar, it was the beginning of a journey that would transform his career and the instruments of countless musicians who make their living playing guitar.
Brooks researched guitars to understand how they were built. He thought, "I wonder if I buy an old beat-up guitar if I could fix it and make it playable again?" Inquiring at a local music store, Brooks asked if they had any old guitars for sale, telling them what he wanted to do. He was directed to a local luthier who repaired broken guitars and offered schooling opportunities.
