Yesterday morning it was brought to our attention that there was product leakage happening on-site at the Dow chemical plant, specifically at the Trinseco location. Since being made aware, myself, along with the Borough Council and Manager have been in constant contact with those on site. This includes Chief Moors, Chief Slack, our emergency management coordinator Ron D'Angelis, DEP and representatives from Trinseco.
The leak which contained a water-soluble finishing solution was quickly capped and clean-up efforts immediately began. Aqua posted the following on their website: "The safety of our customers and employees is Aqua's top priority. Our operations team immediately shut down the intake to our Bristol water system as soon as we learned of the chemical spill, preventing customer exposure to hazardous materials. As a result of their fast action, we are not seeing any of the chemicals from the spill in our drinking
With that being said, it is still being recommenced that Borough residents consume bottled water until further notice. This is purely precautionary as the chemical has not infiltrated the plant, and therefore it is safe to use otherwise. The safety of the Borough residents and the surrounding community are our number one priority, and we will continue to monitor the situation and provide any necessary updates.
