On May 5, 1990 the voters or rural Northwest Brazos County voted and approved the creation of Rural Fire Prevention District No. 4. On September 1, 2003 Brazos County RFPD was legislatively converted to ESD Emergency Services District No. 4. On September 1, 2003 Brazos County RFPD was legislatively converted to Emergency Services District No. 4.
The boundaries of the ESD N o.4 are approximately 120 square miles of rural northwest Brazos County including the communities of Brushy, Smetana and Benchley. Brazos County Emergency Services District N o. 4 is responsible for fire services to the district and contracts with Brazos County Precinct 4 Volunteer Fire Department to provide.
