The Brass Band of Northern Virginia was founded in November 2019 by a group of friends who shared a passion for British-style brass band music and a desire to grow an active and sustainable organization. The mission of the band is to share high-quality performances consisting of both the established brass band repertoire as well as new and innovative brass band programming for the enjoyment and education of the community and to participate in the rich brass band contesting tradition.
The Brass Band of Northern Virginia is a community of musicians drawn from a range of professional and avocational backgrounds in the Virginia, Washington DC, and Maryland metropolitan areas. Dr. Brian Bowman is a renowned euphonium soloist and has over twenty years of experience conducting British Brass Bands. He has served as a professor at nine universities, was the first euphonium player to be elected president of the International Tuba Euphonium Association, and has been a product consultant with Wilson, Getzen, and DEG. Dr. Bowman has received numerous accolades, including the Clifford Bevan Award for Meritorious Work in Low Brass Scholarship from the International Tuba Euphonium Conferenc
