The Benin Education Fund is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity that provides scholarships and educational support to ambitious students in rural West Africa. We're headquartered in Annandale, VA, from where we have helped more than 550 students stay in school since our founding in 1998.
The scholarships and educational support provided by BEF are given to needy but promising students from rural Benin. Primary education is free in Benin. However, basic high school expenses exceed $150 a year in a country where the average annual income is less than $700. For this reason, about 50% of students drop out after primary school.
