Designed by the world-renowned architect, the late Randall Stout, UAB’s Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts (AEIVA), is a center for UAB and the Birmingham community to engage with contemporary art and artists. The 26,000-square-foot building is named for lead donors Judy and Hal Abroms, and Ruth and the late Marvin Engel. AEIVA’s 5,000 square feet of exhibition space features six to eight exhibitions a year.

For over 20 years, UAB’s Alys Stephens Center has been Birmingham’s home for the performing arts and one of the Southeast’s premier presenters and producers of artistic programming—from music, dance and theatre. The Alys Stephens Center is also the home of UAB’s departments of theatre and music as well as the Alabama Symphony Orchestra.

UAB’s ArtPlay Community Art Education provides lifelong learning through the arts to all ages, skill levels, incomes and geographical areas through free and fee-based classes, events, performances and exhibits. These opportunities immerse individuals in a world of creativity that opens up a world of possibilities as they develop an understanding and appreciation for the arts.
